Have a Clearly Defined Target Audience
In order to increase conversion rate, you must have a clearly defined target audience. Who are you trying to reach with your message? Many of us make the mistake of thinking that our product or service is suitable for “everybody”. The truth is that there is not a single product or service that is suitable for everybody.
Not even water is suitable for everybody since there are different types of water that people may want. Some may want filtered water. Some may want purified water. Others may want water straight from heaven and others may prefer flavored water.
Still others may want bottled water. Others want tap water. The fact is that people’s want and needs differ. Therefore, if we want to sell more of a product or service, we need to know exactly who we are selling to and what are their desires.
The reason for having a clearly defined target audience is so that you can tailor your marketing message specifically to reach a particular group of people. This is why niche sites are more likely to convert than non-niche sites when it comes to actually selling a product or a service.
Niche sites are specifically focused on a particular topic and therefore are specifically focused on a particular audience.
Since you want your product or service to be attractive to your readers
everything about your website or blog should appeal to that specific audience. The language used, the images that you use, the style of writing, the layout of your site, everything should appeal to that specific audience.
If your audience is too general, you are going to lose a good chunk of the market. If you clearly define your target audience and tailor your message for that audience, you will see an increase in conversions even without an increase in website traffic.
Have a Clearly Defined Message
A clearly defined message is one that fulfills a particular objective from the audience’s point of view. If the reader conducted a keyword research using the terms “how to lose weight without dieting” for example, if they click on your link, they are expecting to find answers and solutions and ways that they can lose weight without dieting.
If your article does not answer those questions for them, they are likely to keep searching without even looking at your calls to action, assuming you have any.
Each and every blog post that you publish must have a clearly defined message that meets an objective from the audience’s perspective. What are you trying to say in that message? You should have one central message that is supported by a few other sub-messages.
Your message should be clear to your audience and you should be able to summarize your message in one sentence. If you can’t do that, your message may not be clearly defined.
A message that is not clearly defined may cause confusion among readers and will inevitably lead to a high bounce rate and consequently, a drop in your conversion rate. If you are talking about fitness exercises in your article, you shouldn’t go off on a tangent and begin to talk about SEO within the same article unless there is some sort of connection between the two.
Have you ever listened to a speaker who jumped from subject to subject and who left you wandering what his/her message was about at the end of it? Maybe you didn’t even get to the end of the message because you may have either dosed off or slipped out and went to the restroom and decided not to return.
A similar thing happens whenever you write a blog post that does not have a clearly defined message. You tend to lose people somewhere in the process. If you want to increase conversions, you cannot afford to lose readers because of a message that is not clearly defined or that does not solve a problem or answer a question for the reader.
Include Compelling Calls to Action (CTAs) to Increase Conversions
We are a society that likes to assume. And you know what they say about persons who assume right? When you assume you make an ass of you and me. Don’t assume that your readers know what actions you want them to take.
Spell it out plainly. Ask for what you want. If you don’t ask, you won’t get. If you want them to buy now, then say so, if you want them to click a link to get more information, say so. Are you want them to sign up for your email list? Then ask them to do so.
One thing that I notice about bloggers who are successful in terms of making money online is that they include several different CTAs throughout their articles or on their websites or blogs. A single CTA may be missed or overlooked so it is always a good idea to include more than one CTA in each article or on each page.
A good idea would be to include one near the top of the article, another one near the center, and another one at the end of the article.
It’s all well and good to include a call to action but if that call to action is not compelling, you can forget about conversion. Use words that are strong and active instead of using a passive voice.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how much website traffic you get, if you don’t include calls to action or if you do it ineffectively, your conversion rate will never improve. Increase conversions by including a call to action in each blog post.
So take some time to go over your published blog posts and include calls to action in order to increase conversions.
Offer Choices to Your Readers
We all like to have choices. No one likes to think that they have to buy something because they have no other choice. People want to know that they have other choices and that they are able to choose between a few available choices.
And giving readers a choice does not have to be difficult. For example, if you offer proof reading as a service on your blog, you can offer an economy service, a standard service and also a premium service.

This gives prospects the opportunity to choose which package is more suitable for them. Choices give people a greater sense of control and increases the likelihood that they will purchase something. So offering choices is a great way to increase conversions even without increasing website traffic.
You can increase conversions if you stop focusing so much on increasing website traffic and instead focus on the needs of your target audience. But you have to have a clearly defined target audience in the first place so that you can tailor your marketing message for that particular group.
Once you have a clearly defined target audience and a clearly defined message, be prepared to include calls to action that will tell readers exactly what they need to do to solve their problem or to answer their questions.
But be certain to give your prospects choices in order to give them a greater sense of control in the decision-making process. Implement these steps and you will be on your way to increase conversions even without increasing website traffic
